Fall Out Boy gives new meaning to "flavour of the month" and weighs in on the political bandwagon currently jamming through the US of A. By Janette Chen.

It’s all happening in the land of Fall Out Boy. With the spread of a viral campaign that took an unexpected turn, a mixtape and talk of a new album dropping soon, the Chicago emo rockers are once again setting hearts on fire.

CitizensForOurBetterment.com, the viral marketing campaign launched by the band, with a little help from their friends. Claiming Pete Wentz’s Decaydance records’ website was hacked by an unknown group calling themselves “Citizens for Our Betterment”, and then a paparazzi photo of Wentz’s wife Ashlee Simpson holding a Citizens For Our Betterment pamphlet circulating the internet, news spread like wildfire across message boards and fan sites.

All was going well until mellow indie rockers Copeland hijacked their campaign, launching their own CitizensFourOurBetterment.com (‘four’ instead of ‘for’) and leading fans to further mysterious destinations on the world wide web which had nothing to do with Fall Out Boy at all. And although there was a lot of confusion running around, it was all cleared up soon enough and there are no hard feelings between the bands.

A mixtape was released, titled Welcome To The New Administration featuring a selection of songs, snippets and remixes from the Fueled By Ramen and Decaydance family, including Cobra Starship, The Academy Is… and Panic At The Disco. Most notably though, a mysterious band who call themselves “The Paul Revere Jumpsuit Apparatus”, rumoured to be Panic At The Disco in disguise with those scrapped songs they wrote while tucked away in a Nevada cabin in the US, not that anybody in FBR are saying anything.

Of course, a mixtape part of Fall Out Boy’s viral couldn’t go without including some of the band’s own music. A demo mash-up with Gym Class Heroes, two snippets and an entire demo give us a glimpse into what FOB has been working on since their last release in early 2007, Infinity On High.

By the time the official announcement was made, we had all been expecting it. With Pete Wentz’s horrific mispronunciation of its French title, Folie À Deux (meaning the shared madness of two,) is set to be in stores worldwide on 4 November – America’s election day. And although the band denies their upcoming album being political, the mixtape contains a song called We Believe In Barack Obama, as well as manifestos from all the band members, and a few other members of the FBR family. Highly anticipated, and the fifth full-length release since their early days in 2001, Folie À Deux is set to hit the charts, showing how far the band has come over the years.

So mark 4 November in your diaries, and get your hands on that mixtape – you wouldn’t want all Fall Out Boy’s efforts going to waste now, would you?
