The news did spread

                with forced syllables

and a suggestive lead

                (as if from a hard-news article)

rallying right through the heart

Past charming memories were flamed

                as those barren and clean-handed words of his

struck me.

(if only he wasn’t so innocent)

That laugh purged him to infancy

                As he giggled with that dribble on the edge of his wet lips

But nevertheless
