I know you're probably wondering what the discography of mid-90s power-pop princess group The Spice Girls has to do with Australian politics. Well here's the story from A to Z, listen carefully:

It looks like election day losers The Liberals might do a 2 Become 1 merger with The Nationals if a band of federal MPs get their way. With their creaming at the polls and John Howard out faster than Geri Halliwell, The Libs are still struggling with how to get back up to number 1. And boy has there been a media flurry as the prospect made it into print. The press heard Brendan Nelson Holler and it hit Headlines.

You see, The Nationals are still a Wannabe opposition to the increasing might of K Rudd's Labor. With just 10 MPs left, and a Senate constituency led by Nigel Scullion from the Northern Territory Nationals-breakaway The Country Liberal Party, they seem to be begging The Libs to Say You'll Be There. Couple that with the Libs unwillingness to say Goodbye and their desire to Never Give Up On The Good Times and we may see a new party set to Spice Up Your Life!

Not everyone is for it, but Leader of the Opposition, Brendan Nelson, is putting his leadership on the line to see it happen. It won't be an easy settlement though, Nelson is clearly telling The Nats, "If you wanna get with me, you've gotta listen carefully." Nelson, Who Do You Think You Are? "Taking is too easy, and that's the way it is."

Whether there will be a merger, and how it might look if it happens is still up in the air. Is this Viva Forever, or just a attempt to reclaim centre stage?
