The story of the conception of life
by Lucille Cutting posted on 2008-02-23 22:57 last modified 2008-02-25 22:57

There was heat. But there was nothing. No one to feel the heat, it was unfelt, unseen and nonexistent. It began to radiate, first it started as small as two hands clasped together, then as if an unseen force had pried them apart, the hands opened and expanded. The fingers spread outwards like a flower and the heat began to explore its universe. Colour began to form, it came from the centre of the heat like the webs of baby spiders leaving their mothers nest. It floated in the once empty space, it broke the darkness apart, and it to expanded. Yet still, it did not exist, for it was not felt. Shapes began to form, the webs weaved together, life was been born, it was being created in this chaos. Then within the waves of heat and colour, a sound began to reverberate. It began as a deep humming noise, the sound a mother might make as she coo’s her child to sleep. It rose, slowly and imperceptibly, it could be felt most at the centre of where everything had begun, but where it ended, one did not no- it simply dissipated into the dark reaches of the universe. Suddenly the heat was felt, the colours were seen and the noise was heard. Gaia was being born. Gaia arched her back, she moved side to side, twisted and turned, and from her point of expulsion water broke forth and immersed Gaia’s great expanse, she calmed and felt the warmth of the water, the feeling of once again being in the womb.

After time, Gaia began to grow, she grew in size, beauty and wisdom. She was no longer afraid to be free from the waters, she heaved her body upwards and felt a cool chill cover her being, she slid her hands across her body, feeling the places where she had grown rough from exposure, then those which were still soft and smooth from being immersed in the waters. She ran her large hands across her stomach and felt life.

Gaia moved slowly, she was larger now, and life moved within in her, she felt and she remembered her life before, the darkness and silence she had sensed within. The life began to tremble, it became something violent, something which Gaia had not experienced before. Gaia was afraid, she closed her eyes and brought her legs towards to her stomach, never had she felt so alone.

The life found it’s way and broke forth, Gaia cried out, her voice sounded like the wind. When Gaia opened her eyes she saw the sky, then the sea, they held onto one another, their arms in a strong embrace. Gaia was no longer alone. Gaia had made life.
