There is nothing quite like Rob Harvey dancing. Limbs thrashing about, shuffling backwards and forwards, head reflecting light like a beacon, the man has incomparable energy and presence.

And every person in the audience on Thursday night felt it when he came on stage, his long locks no more, to take the mic as lead singer of The Music once more.

The Music pound out energy from the moment they arrive on stage until they leave. They are exceptional musicians, who manage to also be entertainers whilst connecting with the audience. Heart racing, knee locking passion is evoked the moment Harvey lets out a yelp and the band launches into Take The Long Road and Walk It.

Knowing the last four years have been a dark period for the band, with Harvey battling depression and drug/alcohol addiction, it’s particularly inspirational to watch a once broken man come back from the edge with renewed vigour and passion. There is a chilling realism in hearing songs off the album like Drugs and Weapon Sharper Than Will live.

Their set consisted mostly of newer material, but it blended impressively well with older material, where they pleased the crowd with moments like the obligatory mass chant during The People - there is nothing quite like the sound of an entire crowd scatting in shouts.

While the band was solid from start to finish, one comment which must be noted is to the incredibly rude audience members who would talk over slower songs. There is nothing more offensive to the band, or to a fellow fan, to shout loudly to your mate while a man is on stage pouring his heart out in verse. Several mid-tempo songs, including the exquisite Idle, were shattered due to this.

The band led the crowd into finale Bleed From Within accompanied with a tribal drum solo that burst eardrums. The dedicated audience refused to leave it at that and even when the house lights had been switched back on, they cried for more until the band returned for an encore with Human.

The Music put on an incredible show, and they make the fan feel not only like a friend, but like they’re part of the family.
