Who says music is asleep in Tasmania? Don’t throw a blanket over the state just yet as the Scientists of Modern Music release this seven-track wonder. By Leah Markis.

With a nod to Daft Punk and a wink to Nu-Metal, Electronic Sunset serves up a flamboyant but fun mix of hard electronic beats and mash-ups. Using a barrage of electronic tools such as the synthesizer, electric guitar and the Vocoder brand voice synthesizer for a robotic digital vocal effect. The duo, made up of Cal Young and Simon Mc Intosh, make a wild racket with a twist of rock thrown in for good measure.

The bio says they were born in 1987 so that makes them 20 years of age. I wonder if they’ve heard of Suicide? After all we wouldn’t have DP and/or any electronic outfit without that seminal New York two-piece, eh?!

The track For You is where we get to hear more than just beats and drum machine. Two vocals guide us into a Depeche Mode dream-like sequence of melody and backing vocals.  Repetitive? Yes. But what do you expect? This genre of music is meant to be repetitive, isn’t it?  As long as there’s a semblance of melody and a tune then my ears are tuned in. These kids have got me. Even only if for a little while.
