An unnecessary tirade, after remembering that 'Indie' is more conservative and stifling than it would like to admit. No. Deceptive. Now yuppies masquerade themselves in pubs like the Cricketer's Arms as if they were poets. At least they were honest about it before... By Mindy Willing.

I want to thank you. With your bangs and your heels and your condescension. This is not counterculture dude; this is the norm, and you are the status quo. You are not in highschool anymore - the rules don't apply. Yes, there may just be strange and frightening people who also choose the same pub as you one night. You need to prepare yourself for this. I'm sure there's some street press you can search for your face in, why not just stay home and do that instead?

God! The landscape has changed so much! It used to be wanky rock and roll. It never felt so... mean. It was just stupid. Stupidity in Judgement Bar. Now instead, it's snide desperation at Health Club. Or if you reject that, still snide desperation follows you to the Cricketer's. Oh, to NOT be looked at up and down by every other fucking girl with a Haircut and a leather handbag! You all in you second hand getup, your nonchalant leanings against starkly graffiti'd walls, your ironic love of gangster rap:

Admit it!

It's not ironic!!!

I started reading this so casually that I let slip my coffee cup and I think I've been scalded through my cotton pyjamas... For a moment there I had convinced myself that is was your scathing prose that was giving me (unneccessarily painful)third degree burns. But I can't say that when I call the ambulance!?!

hahaha + love it!

This piece resonates with me so much. I've always been the type of person who goes to rock gigs and my fashion has never been particularly fashionable - especially a few years ago! But over the last year or so I've seen more and more people who look like me, or more so, I look like more and more people. And the things I've always loved to do and places I love to go to have become more and more crowded with people who tend to just stand around, looking everyone up and down. I'm hoping, like most fashion trends, this one is fickle and I'll go back to being daggy again :)

The anger and vitriol in the piece is often something I feel as well.
