SBS competition - TURN IT UP!

  • The Turn it Up competition was conceived in 2006 by SBS Radio’s Arabic program.  Originally called Youth Power, it provided an innovative platform to engage and empower young people from the Australian Arabic community. Youth Power received 80 entries and 160,000+ votes via an online poll.

  • In 2008, Turn it Up is aimed at young people aged 14-28 from ALL backgrounds.

  • It encourages young people to express themselves creatively about the issues they face; and promotes cross-cultural communication and understanding.

  • Competition Details 
  • Phase 1: 21 April to 11 July

    Call out for submission of work to Turn it Up.  

    Phase 2: July 14 to 1 August

    People can view the online gallery, comment and vote on their favourite entries. 

    Entries can be submitted in any language broadcast on SBS Radio, in the following formats: 

  • Multimedia (video, website)

  • Audio (song, podcast)

  • Word (poem, essay, monologue, blog)

  • Images (photography, artwork)

Prizes 
  • Cash prizes from sponsor Perisher Blue for the most popular submitted works ($2K cash for the winner of each category)
  • Judges prize ($4K cash + an internship at SBS)
  • Voters’ prizes
  • Entries and winners will be published on sbs.com.au and played on SBS Radio.
